The Friends of San Leandro Creek offer
Elementary School Teachers
Free Field Trips
and
Free In-Class Presentations!
Take your class on a field trip to Root Park in downtown San Leandro, easily accessible from public transportation. Program components may include: watershed awareness, local history, water quality testing, mural and creek tours and environmental stewardship.
Can’t get to the Creek? We will visit your classroom with a presentation of the San Leandro Creek Watershed Interactive CD-ROM. If your class participates in any of our Watershed Awareness programs, you will receive a free copy of the CD-ROM for your classroom library!
Build on these opportunities by having your students participate in our annual Watershed Festival, next held in April 2006! We invite K-12 students to submit entries to our annual Watershed Contests. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category (art, photography and writing) judged by grade levels. Each participant will receive acknowledgment for their entry. Have your class can prepare a Service Learning Project to present at the San Leandro Creek Watershed Festival and receive a free in-class party!
Click here to be added to our education program mailing database, or contact Watershed Awareness Coordinator Laurey Hemenway at 510.577.6069 to schedule an activity for your class or for more information. Demand for these services may exceed availability and preference may be given to schools located within the San Leandro Creek watershed. Staff and volunteers will accommodate your request as scheduling permits.
The San Leandro Creek Watershed Awareness Program is a comprehensive watershed education program funded through Alameda County Flood Control District, supported by the City of San Leandro and implemented by the Friends of San Leandro Creek.
