San Leandro Watershed Education Center

Mission Statement

 Groundbreaking ceremony
Groundbreaking Ceremony for the San Leandro Watershed Education Center
The San Leandro Watershed Education Center will inspire the regional community to develop a healthy, sustainable relationship with the watershed through place-based learning, exhibits, and green building principles. Our visitors will increase their understanding of the impact each person has on the watershed, to enable them to make informed personal choices.

Vision Statement

The Center will deliver education programs for students, teachers and the regional community about conserving natural resources and restoring the natural environment of the East Bay watershed. This objective will be accomplished through displays, presentations, multi-media programs, and interactive learning activities.

The Center is located along the San Leandro Creek within walking distance of public transportation. Teachers will have access to lesson plans, books, publications, videotapes, and scientific equipment. The staff will provide standards-based curriculum, computer and hands-on learning activities, creek walks, and presentations.

The main building will be a functional display of sustainable building practices. Its "green" elements will reinforce the Center’s focus on recycling and reusing materials and on conserving energy and water. A community organic garden will be located on the grounds.
